It's a new technology that could well see the light of day, one that would enable us to store no less than 500 terabytes on a glass disc barely larger than a Blu-Ray DVD.
The news comes from the UK, and more specifically from the University of Southampton, where papers have just been published on a new way of storing information on a glass disc, a new technology known as 5D.
According to the same study, the stored data can be used for a very long time - 3.8 billion years, according to the study.
But we don't have any more information about this technology, whether it can only be used for storage purposes and not for everyday use, and whether the access time to information is relatively long or not.
