Significant progress in FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) rollout

As part of the drive to improve Internet connectivity, our country has reached a significant milestone in terms of high-speed Internet connectivity thanks to "Fiber to the Home" (FTTH) technology.

Indeed, the number of homes connected via FTTH technology reached one million subscribers at the beginning of November 2023, marking exponential growth since the start of 2020, when it stood at around 53,000 subscribers.

This leap forward has been accompanied by a substantial improvement in the speeds offered to subscribers, now reaching up to 300 Mbps, with lower tariffs for higher speeds.

To encourage the adoption of this advanced technology by households, sustained communication efforts have been deployed, notably through awareness-raising campaigns in the field, especially among citizens living in new urban centers.

In addition to positive indicators such as the growing number of subscribers, improved bandwidths and the FTTH rollout rate, our country stands out for the particularity of FTTH rollout in all 58 wilayas, as part of a balanced approach aimed at generalizing ICT throughout the national territory.

It is essential to note that FTTH technology is currently being deployed in order to :

Connect those who are not yet connected to the Internet, especially in new cities and urban centers.

Modernize existing copper-based access networks, gradually switching subscribers from xDSL to FTTH.

To recall the advantages and characteristics of this technology:

Fiber To The Home (FTTH) is a wired telecommunications network technology that provides very high-speed Internet access, using optical fiber from end-to-end between the optical connection node and the subscriber.

FTTH networks offer a quality connection with very high data rates, reduce latency, minimize interruptions and eliminate electromagnetic interference.

In parallel with these advances, the total number of households connected to the fixed Internet network rose from 3.5 million at the start of 2020 to over 5.4 million in November 2023.

It is essential to stress that this progress in fixed Internet is the result of a significant increase in international bandwidth capacity, from 1.5 Tbps at the start of 2020 to 7.8 Tbps today. However, these achievements are first and foremost the fruit of the commitment and determination of industry professionals to continuously improve the quality of Internet connectivity service offered to our fellow citizens.
